THE BIG EVENT
The Big Event is the largest student led, planned, and executed one day public service event in the United States. It is the way Aggies thank the communities of Bryan and College Station for their support throughout the year. It is not need based but is a selfless effort by Aggies in concert with Aggie values and community service. It unifies Aggies with each other as it unifies them with the community.
It began in 1982 when six Aggies decided to clean up a neglected cemetery. Since then, Aggies have devoted over one million hours of their time to this community service to reinforce the bond between the student body and the sister cities that are home to Texas A&M University.
In 2019 over 18,000 students participated. In 2020 the Big Event had to be canceled due to the COVID-19 Virus. It is was resumed for its 39th iteration in 2021.
